Comprehensive Hygiene and Periodontal (Gum / Bone) Care

The best way to avoid extensive dental procedures is to come in to our office for regular dental checkups. Your appointment will consist of a regular check-up, x-rays, and a dental cleaning to decrease future occurrences of oral and dental disease so your teeth can remain healthy and beautiful.

Your teeth are intended to last a lifetime, and they can with proper care. Daily brushing and flossing and regular professional cleanings are keys to avoiding periodontal diseases, the major cause of tooth loss in adults. Periodontal diseases are usually painless and may develop slowly. They start as a bacterial infection which attacks the gums, jawbone and ligaments that support the teeth and hold them in the jaw.

Regular visits to the Coppersmith Dental clinic can help maintain the health of your teeth, gums and bones with regular inspection of the soft gum tissue around the teeth and x-rays to monitor the underlying bone structure.

Dental Implants: Single and Multiple Implants

Dental implants can be for a single tooth or multiple teeth to create restorations that resemble a tooth or group of teeth. With dental implants, an artificial tooth root is placed into your jaw to hold a replacement tooth or bridge. Because dental implants are connected with the gum tissues and underlying bone in the mouth, the implants are so natural-looking and feeling, you may forget you ever lost a tooth. Dental implants are an ideal option for people in good general oral health who have lost a tooth or teeth due to periodontal disease, an injury, or some other reason.

Crown and Bridge Dental Rehab

If you are missing one or more teeth, a crown or fixed bridge can help restore both function and appearance to your smile.

When the teeth are damaged or decayed, a crown is used and would be placed on the damaged tooth to restore function and balance the occlusion or bite of the affected areas.

A bridge is attached by cementing the crowns to your natural, existing teeth on either side of the gap. Each tooth and crown in the bridge is expertly color-matched so that they blend right in. They are cemented & non-removable. No one knows you have crowns or spaces because they look so natural.

Root Canal: Treatment of Nerve Damage to Save the Smile.

A root canal is a dental procedure that is used to remove diseased pulp tissue from the interior of a tooth. A procedure involves tooth disinfection and the removal of all debris (nerve tissue, lymph tissue, blood tissue, bacteria and infection) from the pulp chamber and associated canals. Once an affected tooth's canals are sufficiently cleansed and shaped, they are filled with materials designed to prevent pain and infection from recurring.

A tooth can become inflamed or infected for several reasons, including injury or damage to the tooth. Typically, a root canal is recommended in such situations to save the affected tooth and preserve its functionality providing you with a natural look and feel to your bite and smile.

Porcelain veneers

Porcelain veneers are extremely esthetic and offer functional restorations in a wide range of case situation. Veneers are very thin acrylic or porcelain shells that are attached to the front part of teeth. Like bonding, veneers can cover badly-stained teeth, chipped teeth, uneven teeth and large fillings providing a natural look and feel. Individually crafted combining exacting build-up techniques with the best in ceramic materials, veneers significantly enhance the appearance of your smile and restore your confidence. Zoom Tooth Whitening

Many things we do on a regular basis can contribute to stained teeth, such as drinking coffee, tea, cola and red wine or smoking.  If tooth whitening is taking place at home with a teeth bleaching kit, then the desired results of teeth bleaching may take longer to reach. Zoom! is a safe bleaching process that lightens discoloration of the tooth enamel. The complete procedure takes just over an hour to brighten a person’s teeth up to nine shades lighter.

The procedure begins with a preparation period followed as little as by 45 minutes of treatment. The active ingredient in the light activated whitening gel is hydrogen peroxide. As the hydrogen peroxide is broken down, oxygen enters the enamel and dentin, bleaching colored substances while the structure of the tooth is unchanged. The light aids in activating the hydrogen peroxide and helps it penetrate the surface of the tooth bringing back a natural white smile.

VELscope: Oral Cancer Detection

The VELscope is the only non-invasive device clinically proven to help discover oral disease.
The non-invasive oral examination uses a bright blue light to emphasize any changes in the mouth that a dentist could not normally see. The examination of mouth tissue under the light underscores the changes in fluorescence that occurs when abnormalities are present. The different fluorescent responses help differentiate between normal and unhealthy tissue.

The VELscope was developed by B.C. Cancer Agency from funds given by National Institute of Dental Craniofacial Research. The VELscope can be very useful for early detection of oral cancer as better treatment is achieved when oral cancer is treated in its early stages. The procedure is painless and only takes one or two minutes, with no rinses or stains required. Ask the Coppersmith team to perform this potentially life saving, painless procedure the next time you’re in.

Comprehensive Assessment of Bite Occlusion, Treatment of TMJ Disorders,Treatment of Facial Pain

Temporomandibular disorder (TMJ) affects the temporomandibular joint, an area that includes the hinge jaw joint (the bridge for the lower jaw or mandible) and the temporal bone of the skull located in front of each ear, the muscles surrounding the jaw and the jaw itself. It is these areas or parts of the facial structure that contribute to chewing, the bite (occlusion) and jaw movement.

TMJ sufferers often experience jaw clicking, popping or locking during movement. In some cases, chewing is difficult, or the bite may not align properly (malocclusion). You may also experience fatigue, pain on the side of the face, toothaches, headaches, neck aches, earaches and hearing problems.

If you are experiencing pain and discomfort in the face, jaw joint, neck and shoulders, call us for a consultation to discuss your pain and to schedule a comprehensive evaluation for TMJ.
