Dr. Salim Kamani
Dr. Salim Kamani has been practicing dentistry for over 30 years. To him, family and cosmetic dentistry is more than a professional medical service. For him and the Coppersmith team, dentistry is an expression of art through science - being artful within the scientific parameters of modern dentistry. It is this pursuit of art that attracted Dr. Kamani to the profession of dentistry and guides his practice today.
Dr. Kamani graduated from the University of Manitoba, Faculty of Dentistry in 1981, and started practicing the art of dentistry as an associate in Quesnel, BC in that same year.
In 1982, he established a practice in the Lower Mainland, which has grown and established itself an integral part of the community. Over this period of years, Dr. Kamani has treated over 20,000 patients. He prides himself on having developed smiles and happy clients that cross generational lines by treating kids, parents, grandparents and great-grand parents of the same families over his 30 yrs.
Dr. Kamani's involvement in the community is extensive. As Chief of the Dept. of Dentistry for Surrey Memorial Hospital from 1982 to 1989, Dr. Kamani was instrumental in setting up the Hospital's Dept. of Dentistry. He also spearheaded the creation of the Hospital's extended, long term care Dental Facility for seniors and patients requiring 24 hour care.
His commitment to community involvement extends around the world, as well, by providing voluntary dental services to 3rd world countries. For anywhere from 2-3 weeks a year, Dr. Kamani visits developing nations providing free dental care to people who have often never seen a dentist or received any oral care. In March 2000, he began providing voluntary dentistry services overseas with a 3 week trip to Indonesia. Since then, his voluntary dental missions has served people in the Dominican Republic, Thailand, the Philippines and El Salvador.
In his professional contribution to the dental community, Dr. Kamani is actively involved in peer study groups. These monthly meetings are attended by his fellow dental practitioners to discuss and improve quality dental practices and client care management. As well, Dr. Kamani's experience amongst his peers has grown to a leadership position and is actively mentoring and leading the development of younger doctors starting out their practice.
Over his years of practice, Dr. Kamani has complimented his professional development by attending advanced courses in dentistry. As well, for a period of 8 yrs in the 1980's he worked with Drs. Kois and Spear, Associate Professors at U of Washington, in the Dental Specialty Department. During this time he gained extensive exposure to comprehensive treatment techniques for crown's, bridges, developing stable bite occlusions, treating TMJ (Temporomandibular joint disorder), and assessing pain needs. He has also taken numerous courses in bridge construction, prosthetic implants and Dental Implantology, and been performing these specialized types of treatments for over 30 years.
